Speakers Back State Police Bill, Promise Thorough Review

The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria has thrown its weight behind the Senate’s passage of the State Police Bill for second reading, describing it as a crucial advancement for improving security and promoting true federalism in the country. 

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Chairman of the Conference and Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, expressed strong support for the initiative. He noted that the conference has long advocated for state police, emphasising that community-based policing would enable faster responses to security issues and better address local concerns. 

“This development marks a significant milestone in the national conversation on policing, security, and true federalism in Nigeria,” Guwor said.
