The long-awaited return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Borno State who had been living in Yobe for years has begun, with the first batch safely transported back to Maiduguri.
Authorities in Yobe State are prioritising the safety of women and children, who constitute the majority of the returnees. The exercise is being coordinated by the Security Adviser to Governor Mai Mala Buni, Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), in collaboration with the Director of Search and Rescue at the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other security agencies.
As of Tuesday morning, IDPs from the Water Board facility and the Roundabout axis along the Maiduguri Road departed from Damaturu after expressing their eagerness to return home. The Yobe State Government provided free transportation and full security escorts throughout the journey to ensure their safety.
