Popular Nigerian-Japanese content creator, Katy Igwe, also known as Ada Igbo, has drawn widespread praise online after sharing a video of her conversation with another Japanese-Igbo woman who spoke fluent Igbo, surprising many social media users.

The vlog, shared on YouTube on Thursday and circulated across multiple social media platforms, has attracted thousands of views and positive reactions, with many applauding the pair for preserving their Igbo heritage despite growing up in Japan.

Igwe, who hails from Oguta in Imo State but lives in Tokyo, Japan, is known for creating content centred on cultural exchange, fashion and the fusion of Nigerian and Japanese lifestyles.

In the video, Igwe attended an African and Caribbean festival in Japan, where she met another woman who identified herself as Ada Amaka from Imo State.

When asked whether she could speak Igbo, Ada Amaka replied in Igbo, “Yes, I speak Igbo. I even prepare cassava.”
