CSOs Urge Stronger Security Action, Call for Citizens’ Support Against Terrorism

Civil society organisations have urged Nigeria’s security agencies to intensify efforts against terrorism while calling on citizens to play a more active role in safeguarding communities through credible intelligence sharing.

The appeal was made in Abuja by the United Against Terror Movement (UATM), which commended the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, and other agencies for what it described as renewed professionalism in tackling insecurity.

Convener Okai Austin noted that while progress has been recorded, terrorism remains a major threat requiring sustained vigilance. He praised the DSS for adhering to due process in handling suspects, saying this approach has strengthened public confidence in democratic institutions.

Austin also highlighted the recent release and compensation of a wrongly arrested farmer in Kaduna as evidence of growing accountability, urging the military and police to adopt similar standards.
