Kebbi declares war on’Yan vocal’ cybercrime syndicate

The Kebbi State Government has declared a major crackdown on an emerging cybercrime syndicate known as “Yan Vocal,” vowing to dismantle the network and prosecute those responsible for a growing wave of online fraud, blackmail and cyber extortion targeting victims within and outside Nigeria.

The government said credible intelligence indicated that the syndicate, largely made up of young people aged between 19 and 24, operates from parts of Argungu Local Government Area and specialises in hacking social media accounts, creating fake online identities, and using threats and blackmail to extort money from unsuspecting victims.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, the government described the activities of the group as a growing threat to public safety and national security.
