INEC extends voter registration, launches self-service online biometric enrolment

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended Nigeria’s ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks and unveiled a new self-service digital registration platform that will enable eligible first-time voters to complete the entire registration process, including biometric capture, using their personal devices.

According to the nation’s electoral umpire, the move marks a significant expansion of technology in Nigeria’s electoral process, allowing citizens to register remotely without visiting an INEC registration centre for biometric enrolment.

The nationwide CVR exercise, which commenced on August 18, 2025 and was originally scheduled to end on July 10, 2026, will now close on July 24, 2026, following feedback from stakeholders across the country, the electoral commission says in a statement seen by Technology Times
