The Nigerian Academy of Science has inaugurated the Research Leaders Mentorship programme to provide early-career scientists across the country with professional guidance and career development opportunities.
The initiative is designed to support emerging innovators through strategic research guidance and institutional collaboration, according to a statement made available to Sunday PUNCH.
The statement was jointly issued on Friday by NAS President, Prof. Abubakar Sambo; NAS Public Affairs Secretary, Prof. Chinedum Babalola; and NAS Executive Secretary, Dr. Oladoyin Odubanjo.
The scheme, which officially commenced during an orientation session on September 7, 2026, pairs 25 early-career researchers with 25 established Nigerian scientists, including NAS Fellows, for a six-month engagement.
NAS explained that the project aims to build capacity and strengthen the next generation of scientific leaders in the country.
