Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on African countries to deepen cooperation and present a common position in global discussions on artificial intelligence, telecommunications and digital governance.
Shettima said no African country could independently achieve the continent’s digital ambitions, stressing that unity would strengthen Africa’s influence over policies and standards shaping emerging technologies.
He spoke on Thursday at the opening of the seventh Ordinary Session of the Conference of Plenipotentiaries of the African Telecommunications Union at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.
The Vice President was represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Hadejia.
Shettima said the conference offered African countries an opportunity to coordinate their priorities ahead of the 2026 International Telecommunication Union Plenipotentiary Conference and support African candidates seeking positions within the ITU.
