Akande takes centre stage at world ceramics congress in China

Ceramic artist, Femi Akande, has achieved a major milestone in his international career after being elected into the prestigious International Academy of Ceramics and selected for the organisation’s flagship New Members’ Exhibition in Jingdezhen, China.

Akande’s work, Vessel of Becoming (2026), is among about 200 pieces featured in “Beyond Boundaries — New Frontiers in Ceramic Experimentation,” an exhibition showcasing works by newly elected members of the IAC from more than 50 countries.

The exhibition opened on June 30, 2026, at the Taoxichuan Art Museum in Jingdezhen, regarded as the porcelain capital of the world, and will run until August 30, 2026.

The exhibition was part of the 52nd Congress and General Assembly of the IAC, held from June 27 to July 2, 2026, under the theme “Ceramics: Inheritance and Innovation.” The event attracted ceramic artists, scholars, curators and museum professionals from across the globe.
