Akwa Ibom boosts entrepreneurship with N31bn grant to SMEs

Akwa Ibom State Government has approved the release of N31billion for entrepreneurship development in support of Small and Medium Enterprises, skill acquisition scheme and women cooperative businesses.

Each of the 31 Local Government Councils is to receive N1billion for the implementation of the programme, which also include empowerment and transport schemes.

The decision was reached during the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Umo Eno in Uyo, the State capital.

According to Aniekan Umanah, Commissioner for Information, the programme comprises “youth skills acquisition, training and starter packs and women cooperative business support.

“Others include traders business grants, agricultural support and farm inputs, SME development and enterprise growth and the transport empowerment scheme.”
