Anambra bans construction of unauthorised speed bumps

The Anambra State government has warned residents and communities against the erection of speed bumps on unauthorised public roads, directing that the state government must approve all speed bumps and their locations.

According to a press statement released by the state Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, on Saturday, this was because residents and communities have been erecting indiscriminate speed bumps on public roads, thereby defacing the roads.

Mefor said the decision was taken because indiscriminate installation of speed bumps has adverse effects on road infrastructure and safety.

He called for strict compliance with the directive, adding that stiffer sanctions await residents and communities that construct speed bumps without authorisation or outside approved locations.

The statement read, “The government of Anambra State hereby informs the Ndị Anambra and the general public, that individuals and communities are no longer permitted to construct speed bumps on public roads without prior approval.
