Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has identified insecurity fueled by arms smuggling from parts of Africa as the primary obstacle to President Bola Tinubu’s economic reform agenda.
Speaking to All Progressives Congress (APC) members and supporters at his Igbere country home in Abia State on Friday, the former Abia governor praised Tinubu’s economic policies, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies and foreign exchange reforms, for attracting foreign investments.
However, he noted that persistent security challenges are delaying the full revival of the manufacturing sector and broader economic gains.
Kalu specifically pointed to the influx of arms into Nigeria through land borders from the Mali, Libya, and Burkina Faso axis.
“President Ahmed Tinubu has performed very well in the economy but because of insecurity in different parts of Nigeria, the economy is still having some challenges,” he said.
