Barau: State Police Will Strengthen Nigeria’s Security

Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has declared that the establishment of state police is a crucial step toward enhancing security across Nigeria.

In an interview with Radio Nigeria Kaduna, Barau explained that the system would complement the Nigeria Police Force by recruiting officers from local communities who understand the unique challenges in their areas.

“The State Police Bill recently passed by the Senate followed wide consultations involving the Presidency, the National Assembly, the Inspector-General of Police, retired police officers, security experts, governors, civil society groups and members of the public,” he said.

Barau, who chairs the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, noted that public hearings were held across all six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory to gather citizens’ input before the bill was considered.
