Beneath a parking lot in the City of David, archaeologists from the Israel Antiquities Authority and Tel Aviv University have uncovered massive charred wooden beams believed to date to one of the most consequential moments in the history of ancient Jerusalem: the destruction of Solomon’s Temple by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II in 586 BC.
