The Catholic Diocese of Otukpo in Benue State has confirmed that seminarian Kelvin Ochai, who was kidnapped by armed men in Asa III, Otukpo, on Wednesday, 29 July 2026, has regained his freedom.
According to the diocese, Ochai managed to escape from his captors on the evening of Friday, 31 July, and made his way to Aliade in Gwer East Local Government Area, where he was safely reunited with his family unharmed.
The announcement was made in a statement released on Saturday by the Chancellor of the Diocese, Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Itodo. He attributed the successful escape to God’s intervention and the prayers of Christians and other well-wishers.
