For many vulnerable families, humanitarian assistance is often measured by what arrives in a moment of crisis: food, shelter, medical supplies or other emergency support.
In Akwa Ibom State, however, the administration of Gov. Umo Eno is seeking to broaden that definition, from immediate relief to interventions designed to help vulnerable people recover, become self-reliant and withstand future shocks.
Through a growing network of humanitarian, social protection and empowerment programmes, the administration has expanded its focus to housing, food security, health care, support for senior citizens, disability inclusion, enterprise development, skills acquisition and sustainable livelihoods.
That approach was at the heart of the 2026 Humanitarian Stakeholders’ Roundtable 2.0, organised by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs in Uyo to commemorate World Humanitarian Day under the theme, “Building Climate Resilient Communities Through Sustainable Livelihoods.”
