COAS appoints GOCs for new Army divisions

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the appointment of General Officers Commanding for newly established Nigerian Army divisions as the military expands its command structure to strengthen operations across the country.

The appointments followed President Bola Tinubu’s approval for the creation of four additional Nigerian Army divisions as part of ongoing efforts to improve the Army’s operational capacity, command and control, and response to emerging security challenges.

In a post obtained from the Nigerian Army’s X post on Wednesday, the Nigerian Army said the new formations would begin operations after attaining Initial Operational Capability, while deliberate measures would be taken to achieve Full Operational Capability.

“The landmark development forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Nigerian Army’s force structure, expand its operational footprint, enhance command and control as well as improve the Service’s capacity to effectively respond to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges,” the post
