C’River man defrauds woman of N500,000 for hospital jobs

Thirty-nine-year-old Udeme Ekpeme has been arrested by the Cross River State Police Command for allegedly impersonating a medical doctor and defrauding a woman of N500,000 with a false promise of securing employment for her children at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said the suspect was arrested by officers attached to the Uwanse Division in Calabar South following a complaint by Mrs Edemawan Samuel.

According to the PPRO, the complainant alleged that Ekpeme falsely presented himself as a medical doctor and collected the money from her after promising to facilitate employment for her children at the teaching hospital.

He said, “The suspect was arrested by police officers attached to Uwanse Division, Calabar South LGA, following a complaint lodged by Mrs. Edemawan Samuel, 45, who alleged that the suspect falsely presented himself as a medical doctor and fraudulently obtained the sum of N500,000
