The Nigeria Customs Service has said it will soon begin 100% scanning of cargoes imported into the country through the Onne Port in Rivers State.
According to the service, the move is to tighten surveillance and track dangerous cargo, including arms and ammunition as well as pharmaceuticals being snuggled into the country through that channel.
The National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Abdullahi Maiwada, disclosed this at a news conference in Port Harcourt
on Tuesday, ahead of the 2026 Public Relations Week with the theme ‘Realigning Corporate Communication as a Strategic Driver of Institutional Effectiveness and Public Trust.’
Maiwada explained that all goods coming through that One Port and other Ports in the zone would be pre-scanned and images taken to the NCS headquarters in Abuja for further analysis if the need arises.
He said already the 100 per cent scanning has begun at the Apapa Ports in Lagos State
