The Chief of Defence Staff has intensified the push to update Nigeria’s guiding military doctrine as part of efforts to strengthen the Armed Forces’ ability to counter terrorists and other evolving national security threats.
The Committee on Review of the Joint Defence Doctrine 2017 (JDD), in line with this move, paid a consultative visit to the Headquarters 6 Division Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State, on Tuesday, to obtain inputs for incorporation into the 2026 Joint Defence Doctrine.
Ademola Adedoja, Major General and Chairman of the Committee, said during the visit that the Joint Defence Doctrine Review Committee was established in 2017 to periodically review the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s guiding doctrinal document.
He said Olufemi Oluyede, General and the Chief of Defence Staff, had directed the current review to ensure the doctrine remains relevant to contemporary operational demands.
