In some of Ogun State’s busiest markets, towering heaps of refuse, stagnant pools of water and swarms of flies have become familiar sights, exposing commuters and food buyers to potential health risks, VICTOR AYENI writes
On business days, Shola Adebajo leaves his home in Ifo, Ogun State, at about 7 a.m. for the private school where he teaches, a journey of barely 10 minutes.
Having relocated from Lagos in September last year after securing the teaching job, the 27-year-old has gradually become a familiar face in the neighbourhood.
Beyond the classroom, he coaches children in English Language from his home.
On workdays, his routine often includes stopping at the bustling Ifo Market to buy food or eat at one of the makeshift restaurants lining its busy roads.
But a persistent problem along the market roadside has turned what should be a simple meal into an unpleasant experience.
