Dr. Bello Abubakar, the medical doctor at the centre of the controversy over a medical report submitted in support of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s bail application, has admitted to preparing the document.
Abubakar made the disclosure in a statement to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) during its investigation into the disputed report. He, however, rejected allegations of forgery or conspiracy, insisting he acted strictly in his professional capacity.
“I prepared the medical report in question, but I did not conspire with anyone to falsify records,” Abubakar stated, adding that he has no connection with Mohammed Bala Aliyu, the individual accused of using the report to swear an affidavit in support of El-Rufai’s bail application.
The ICPC had accused Abubakar of knowingly issuing a false medical report intended to influence El-Rufai’s legal proceedings before the Kaduna State High Court. The document, dated June 10, 2026, and titled
