Don’t seek shelter under telecom masts during storms, NSCDC warns Kano residents

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kano State Command, on Friday flagged off a statewide public awareness campaign to educate residents on the safety of telecommunication masts during the rainy season and the need to protect critical telecommunications infrastructure.

Speaking at the flag-off, the NSCDC State Commandant, Mohammed Agalama, warned members of the public against tampering with telecommunication masts, underground cables, power installations or any component of telecommunications facilities, stressing that such acts constitute economic sabotage and endanger public safety.

The state commandant noted that heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds associated with the rainy season could pose risks around telecommunication installations.

He therefore urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid taking shelter under telecommunication masts during storms and promptly report any damaged or suspicious installations to the nearest NSCDC office or other relevant authorities.
