The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has announced that the Department of State Services (DSS) and foreign observers will monitor the association’s national election scheduled for July 18, 2026.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Osigwe said the presence of security operatives and international observers would ensure transparency and provide independent reports on the credibility of the poll.

He dismissed fears of rigging raised by some members, stressing that the process would be free and fair.Osigwe clarified that he has no vested interest in any of the three candidates vying to succeed him, Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN; Lateef Akangbe Omoyele, SAN; and Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, the only female contender.

He accused a group known as Egbe Amofin of attempting to impose a candidate, contrary to the NBA constitution, but insisted that the association would not block any aspirant’s ambition.

To further allay concerns, Osigwe pledged not to cast
