Dutch FA condemns racist abuse after World Cup exit

The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) has strongly condemned the online racist abuse directed at Netherlands players following their painful elimination from the FIFA 2026 World Cup.

The Netherlands were knocked out by Morocco in the Round of 32 on Monday, losing 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw following extra time in Monterrey, Mexico.

Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo gave the Netherlands the lead in the 72nd minute before Issa Diop headed home a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser to force extra time. Morocco eventually prevailed in the penalty shootout to book a place in the Round of 16.

In a statement, the KNVB thanked the players, coaching staff and supporters for their efforts throughout the tournament, which is being co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States.
