Early funding will enhance preparations for 2027 polls, INEC assures Nigerians

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kwara State has said that early release of funds to the Commission will significantly enhance its preparedness for the 2027 general elections.

The Commission also assured Nigerians that it remains committed to consolidating the nation’s democracy by conducting credible elections in which every valid vote counts and reflects the wishes of the people.

Adejumo Peter, the Head of Voter Education and Publicity, INEC Kwara State, stated this in Ilorin while fielding questions from journalists at a seminar organised by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council.

Responding to a question on the amended Electoral Act 2026, which reportedly changes the timeline for funding INEC from one year before elections to six months, Peter said the lawmakers must have had reasons for introducing the amendment, although earlier funding would be more beneficial to the Commission’s planning process.
