The European Union (EU) has revealed its intention to enhance support for reproductive and adolescent health services in Kwara State through the European Union Strengthening Access to Reproductive and Adolescent Health (EU-SARAH) programme.
Massimo De Luca, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, shared this information during a visit to health facilities and communities that are part of the programme in Kwara.
De Luca stated that the EU-SARAH programme, funded by the European Union and executed by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), aims to assist government initiatives rather than assume its obligations.
He emphasized that the programme’s success relies heavily on the government’s commitment and leadership, pointing out that the EU’s effective support is contingent on governmental willingness to lead.
“We are here to support the government. We are not replacing government. If government is not moving, we cannot move,”
