The immediate past Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, has pleaded not guilty to four counts of alleged corruption filed against him by the Federal Government.
Umar was arraigned before Justice Peter Kekemeke of the FCT High Court in Abuja on Thursday following charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The case, filed on June 19, 2026, accuses him of using his office to confer corrupt and unfair advantages on himself through payments made by contractors to his wife and children.After the charges were read, Umar entered a not-guilty plea.
The prosecution counsel, Christopher Mshelia, requested that the defendant be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending trial. Defence counsel, Sunday Edward, applied for bail, assuring the court that Umar would be available to face trial.
The prosecution opposed immediate hearing of the bail application, noting it had only received the defence’s filing the previous day.
