Senate President Godswill Akpabio has cautioned the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Christopher Maikalangu, against naming roads constructed with federal government funds without proper authorization.

Speaking at the inauguration of roads in Gaduwa District to mark President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office, Akpabio criticized the practice of naming federally funded projects after individuals without approval.

“We will not spend money from the federal government to construct a road only for you to name it after your mother or a palm wine tapper in your village,” Akpabio said, stressing that “he who pays the piper dictates the tune.”

His remarks echoed warnings earlier issued by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who had reminded the AMAC Chairman that only roads funded by the council could be named at his discretion.

Akpabio commended Wike for enforcing accountability in project management, emphasizing that naming rights must align with funding sources and official approval processes.
