The Federal Government has urged for a comprehensive reform of general hospitals throughout the states in order to bridge the gaps in Nigeria’s healthcare system and alleviate the burden on tertiary health facilities.
Dr. Samuel Oyeniyi, Director of the Reproductive Health Division at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, made this appeal on Thursday during a special webinar organized by the Doctors Medical Aid Foundation (DMAF), themed, “Nigeria’s Health Workforce at a Crossroads: Rethinking How We Deliver Care.”
Oyeniyi pointed out that the ineffectiveness of state-level general hospitals presents a significant issue within the country’s healthcare delivery framework, emphasizing that numerous patients opt to bypass secondary healthcare facilities, traveling extensive distances to reach tertiary hospitals located in state capitals.
