FG makes national ranking compulsory for universities, polytechnics, colleges of education

The Federal Government has expanded Nigeria’s national tertiary education ranking framework to cover universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, making participation compulsory for all tertiary institutions across the country.

Maruf Tunji Alausa, Minister of Education, announced the development in Abuja during a meeting with the Nigerian Universities Ranking Advisory Committee (NURAC), which has now been expanded and renamed the Nigerian Tertiary Education Ranking Advisory Committee.

According to a statement signed by Ikharo Attah, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister, Alausa said the expanded ranking framework formed part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s education reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda and was being implemented through the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI).

He said the initiative was designed to strengthen quality, accountability, institutional performance and global competitiveness across Nigeria’s tertiary education system.

Alausa explained that the ranking would provide tertiary institutions with clear benchmarks
