The Federal Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists attacked the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC) in Monguno, Borno State.
Officials described the claims as false and misleading.In a statement issued Monday, the Ministry of Education’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, confirmed that students, staff, and facilities at FGGC Monguno remain safe.
The ministry said its verification, including direct communication with school authorities, showed that academic and boarding activities are continuing without disruption under existing security arrangements.
The clarification followed viral reports claiming suspected ISWAP fighters launched a pre-dawn attack on the college, allegedly killing students and attempting abductions.
Some accounts also suggested that troops of Operation HADIN KAI and Nigeria Police Mobile Force foiled an attempted abduction at the school.
However, Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa explained that none of FGGC Monguno’s students were involved in the incident.
