First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has revealed that she will proudly wear Akwete fabric if President Bola Tinubu secures a second term in office, as she pledged major support for the revival of the centuries-old weaving industry in Abia State.
The First Lady made the comments on Tuesday during her maiden visit to the Akwete Weaving Cooperative Village in Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State.
She announced a ₦2 billion intervention fund aimed at revitalising the akwete traditional textile industry.
Speaking during the visit, Senator Tinubu said she had become deeply impressed by the quality and cultural significance of the handwoven fabric after witnessing the work being done by local artisans.
She said the soft texture of the materials and breathable cotton quality had convinced her to make it part of her personal wardrobe.
