Gethsemane honors the Precious Blood with rose petals

While the universal Church celebrates the Precious Blood on Corpus Christi and in the month of July, the Basilica of the Agony in Jerusalem honors it with red roses on July 1.

Since 1969, the Catholic Church has celebrated the Precious Blood alongside the solemnity of Corpus Christi. An exception remains: Every July 1 at Gethsemane, the faithful venerate Jesus’ drops of blood, materialized by red rose petals. Although a liturgical exception, it makes sense, as the universal Church dedicates the entire month of July to the veneration of the Precious Blood.
