The piece of heart-warming news that Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara state has distributed 120 free trucks of fertiliser, 200,000 litres of herbicides, 100 crop residue crushers to farmers in the insecurity embattled state is highly commendable, that is
more so at a time the Northern Governors Forum (NGF) has established the Northern Security Trust Fund, pledging N1bn monthly to tackle insecurity across the region.
The association stated that the initiative would improve security in farming communities, encourage increased agricultural production, and strengthen national food security.
It is worthy of note that the Zamfara 2026 wet-season fertiliser programme was recently launched at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau, the state capital. According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the Zamfara State Government distributed 72,000 bags of fertiliser, 200,000 litres of herbicides, and 100 crop residue crushers.
