Hamzat urges investment in local innovation

The Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, has urged Nigeria to invest in homegrown technology, reliable electricity and critical infrastructure to drive economic growth and improve citizens’ welfare.

Hamzat said the country must move beyond consuming imported technology to developing local innovations, creating intellectual property and exporting homegrown solutions.

He spoke on Saturday at the seventh anniversary of Real Talk With Kike and the celebration of broadcaster Kikelomo Atanda-Owo Abati’s more than 20 years in the media industry, held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the deputy governor said unreliable electricity remained a major constraint on businesses, stressing that government commitments must translate into dependable power supply.

“A factory cannot run on a promise,” he said, adding that the impact of electricity reforms should be measured by their benefits to businesses and households.
