
Nigerian startup SereniMind allows users to receive personalised wellness recommendations from its AI chatbot, and reach out to qualified therapists in a secure and supportive environment.
Founded by CEO Ridwan Oyenuga in 2024, SereniMind is a youth-focused mental wellbeing platform that helps young Africans access wellbeing support, educational resources, self-help tools, community engagement opportunities, and professional support when needed.
“Our mission is to make wellbeing support more accessible, affordable, and stigma-free for young people across Africa through technology, advocacy, and partnerships,” Oyenuga told Disrupt Africa.
Oyenuga founded SereniMind after observing the growing wellbeing challenges facing young Africans, and the lack of accessible support systems available to many of them.
“While there are therapy platforms and mental health startups operating across Africa, many focus primarily on clinical services. SereniMind combines wellbeing education, digital engagement, community initiatives, advocacy, and support pathways designed specifically for young Africans,” he said.
Key to this is allowing users to identify relevant mental health professionals, and book appointments, as well as an AI chatbot that provides them with personalised wellness recommendations and advice. Oyenuga said uptake has been “encouraging:, particularly among students, young professionals, and youth-focused communities.
“We’ve reached more than 300,000 young people through mental health awareness campaigns, community engagement, and digital wellbeing initiatives across Africa,” he said. “We’ve also generated over 100 million media and digital impressions through youth-focused campaigns, partnerships, advocacy initiatives, and media coverage.”
SereniMind has primarily been bootstrapped and founder-funded, supplemented by grants, ecosystem support, and strategic partnerships.
