Actress and filmmaker, Inem King, has said she did not venture into the entertainment industry in pursuit of fame, but to use her voice and talent to inspire others and drive positive change.
Speaking in an interview with Sunday Scoop, King, an ex-banker with an MBA, said she had not personally experienced discrimination or lost opportunities because of her skin tone, while acknowledging that colourism remains a major challenge in the entertainment industry.
She said, “I haven’t had an experience where I was denied an opportunity because of my skin tone. My skin is dark, and it’s beautiful. If anyone chooses to overlook me because of that, that’s their loss.
“That said, I recognise that colourism is a real issue, and many talented people have shared experiences that deserve to be acknowledged and addressed.
“As my visibility has grown, I don’t see it simply as a reward for hard work.
