Infantino seeks Trump help to avoid losing FIFA job

FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, is seeking the help of US president Donald Trump, in a bid to keep his job.

Infantino is under pressure to resign from the role, following his failed plot to sell a stake in the World Cup to private investors.

The 56-year-old could have profited from the “FIFA Forward Enterprise” scheme, which was roundly opposed by other governing bodies.

According to the New York Post, Infantino has now reached out to the Trump administration to help keep him in office.

He has now scheduled private talks with the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, as he fights for his job.

Infantino would be hoping Trump repays his decision to overturn Folarin Balogun’s red card at the 2026 World Cup – an action that attracted severe criticism in football circles.
