The Association of Orphanages and Home Operators in Nigeria, Kwara State chapter, has dissociated itself from the Iranlowo Oluwa Orphanage and Children’s Home, an unapproved facility where 30 children were rescued in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The association, in a statement issued on Friday, said the facility was neither a registered member of ASOHON nor known to the organisation, stressing that its members operated homes recognised and approved by the state government.
The statement was signed by the association’s Chairman, Omolehin Christie, and its Secretary, Ayub AbdulGaniy.
The development came less than 24 hours after officials of the Kwara State Ministry of Social Development rescued the 30 children, comprising boys and girls aged between two and 15, from the facility.
ASOHON said, “The illegal orphanage recently detected by government officials, where 30 children were rescued, is not a registered member of our association and is not known to us.
