The Labour Party (LP) has officially unveiled Hajia Bintu Konto as its vice presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, running alongside the party’s presidential flagbearer, Dr. Chibuzo Okereke.
LP National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, announced the decision in Abuja, describing Konto’s nomination as the product of extensive consultations with stakeholders.
He emphasized that the ticket reflects competence, integrity, inclusiveness, and patriotism.According to Asogwa, Konto’s decades-long experience in healthcare, humanitarian work, and community development particularly in conflict-affected areas of Northern Nigeria positions her as a strong complement to Okereke.
Her fluency in multiple languages, including English, Hausa, Kanuri, Shuwa, Fulani, and Bura, was also highlighted as an asset for national unity.
Konto, a trained nurse, midwife, and public health specialist with a Master’s degree in Public Health, has worked with governments, civil society, and international organizations.
She previously held leadership roles at Catholic Relief Services, coordinating programmes in health, nutrition, sanitation, and humanitarian response.
