LASTMA arrests tanker driver for killing dispatch rider in Lagos

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has apprehended a tanker driver who allegedly fled after fatally knocking down a commercial delivery motorcycle rider along Kodesho Road, opposite Mrs Filling Station, inward Awolowo Way/Oba Akran in the Maryland-Ikeja area of the state.

According to a statement issued by the agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq on X on Wednesday, the crash involved a fully laden tanker conveying 33-litre groundnut oil.

The statement said the tanker, bearing registration number T-19089LA, “violently struck and fatally crushed the delivery rider, resulting in his instantaneous death.”

LASTMA said the driver allegedly attempted to escape without rendering assistance to the victim or reporting the incident to the authorities.

“In a reprehensible attempt to evade justice, the tanker driver reportedly sped away from the accident scene without rendering assistance to the victim or notifying the relevant authorities,” the statement read.
