Malawi defeat Egypt 3-1 to move top of WAFCON Group C

Star striker Temwa Chawinga created one goal and scored another as Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) giant killers Malawi beat Egypt 3-1 on Saturday to provisionally top Group C in Rabat.

Defending champions Nigeria face Zambia later in the Moroccan capital and, if they fail to win, debutants Malawi would qualify for the quarter-finals.

Malawi followed a stunning victory over record 10-time WAFCON winners Nigeria with another impressive display despite being reduced to 10 players early in the second half.

Rose Alufandika was shown a straight red card after 52 minutes for a last-defender foul on Habiba Essam at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium.

Malawi led 2-0 at half-time thanks to first goals of the tournament from Rose Kadzere and Faith Chinzimu.
