Meta has unveiled a new suite of artificial intelligence (AI)-driven safety measures for teenagers across Instagram, Facebook and Messenger, expanding age verification, parental oversight and content protections at a time when Nigeria is considering tougher safeguards for children online.
The latest measures come amid growing concerns in Nigeria over cyberbullying, harmful online content, digital addiction and the exposure of children to inappropriate material on social media platforms.
The owner of Instagram, Facebook and Messenger says the updates will use AI to identify underage users, automatically place them in age-appropriate online environments and provide parents with enhanced tools to monitor their children’s digital activities.
