Major League Soccer has launched an investigation into allegations of tampering involving Inter Miami following the club’s signing of Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.
Inter Miami announced on Wednesday that the 34-year-old had joined the club on a deal running until the end of the 2027 MLS season, with an option to extend the contract until June 2029.
Shortly after the announcement, MLS confirmed it was reviewing a tampering allegation related to the transfer.
As reported by BBC Sports on Wednesday, the MLS was quoted as saying, “The league is gathering all relevant information and will refrain from further comment until the review is complete,” MLS said in a statement.
The investigation centres on Casemiro’s discovery rights, an MLS mechanism that gives a club the first opportunity to negotiate with a player seeking to join the league.
