MTN Nigeria Communications Plc has reinforced its dominance of Nigeria’s telecoms market after growing its customer base to 92.2 million subscribers and posting ₦2.97 trillion in service revenue during the first half of 2026, underscoring how rising smartphone adoption and surging demand for mobile broadband are reshaping the country’s digital economy.
The mobile network operator (MNO) owned by South Africa’s MTN Group, added 4.9 million new subscribers in the six months ended June 30, lifting its total customer base by 5.6% year-on-year while expanding active data users to 55.7 million, according to its unaudited H1 2026 financial results.
The strong commercial performance translated into robust financial growth, the MNO says, with service revenue increasing by 25.9% year-on-year to ₦2.97 trillion, driven largely by sustained growth in data services, resilient voice revenues and expanding enterprise connectivity despite persistent macroeconomic pressures.
