Uncertainty hangs over the distribution of fertiliser under President Bola Tinubu’s Fertiliser Input Support Programme in Taraba State after 8,000 bags reportedly went missing.
The 8,000 bags form part of 20,000 delivered to the state in early July 2026 as part of the federal government’s broader intervention to boost food production and enhance national food security.
President Tinubu had announced the procurement of 449,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser nationwide, with Taraba receiving 20,000 bags of organic NPK and urea.
According to investigations, 12,000 bags were allocated to the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Taraba State chapter, while the remaining 8,000 were meant for the Taraba State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for distribution to cooperatives and organised farmers.
Weeks after the allocation, the whereabouts of the 8,000 bags remain unknown, with federal and state officials giving conflicting accounts.
