The trial of former Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, and his Commissioner for Finance, Ademola Banu, over the alleged diversion of N5.78bn belonging to the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board, resumed on Monday, July 27, 2026, with the continuation of cross-examination of the sixth prosecution witness, Stanley Ujilibo, before Justice Mahmud Abdulgafar of the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin.
Ahmed and Banu are being prosecuted by the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on charges bordering on the alleged diversion of SUBEB funds.
Ujilibo, an operative of the EFCC, had testified at the previous sitting on June 17, 2026, that the former governor approved a request to obtain a N1bn loan from the state’s SUBEB counterpart fund to offset workers’ salaries.
According to him, the approval followed a request by the then commissioner for finance, Banu, a move he described as being contrary
