The Nasarawa State Government has commenced free hepatitis screening and vaccination for at least 1,000 civil servants as part of activities marking this year’s World Hepatitis Day.
The exercise, which began on Wednesday in Lafia, is aimed at improving early detection and prevention of viral hepatitis while raising awareness about the disease.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Gaza Gwamna, said the annual observance of World Hepatitis Day provides an opportunity to educate residents about the disease and highlight efforts by the state government and the World Health Organisation to combat it.
Gwamna expressed concern over the high prevalence of hepatitis in the state, noting that both Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C rates were significantly above the national average.
