Prominent political analyst Mahmud Jega has called on President Bola Tinubu to publicly distance himself from perceived efforts to weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Jega issued the advice in the wake of a recent Federal High Court judgment in Lokoja that set aside an earlier ruling directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party.
Speaking on Arise Television, Jega warned that Nigeria’s democracy faces serious risk if opposition parties are systematically prevented from contesting future elections.
He highlighted a growing public perception of a coordinated campaign targeting parties like the PDP, ADC, NDC, Labour Party, NNPP, and others.
“If this is allowed to happen, it could mark the beginning of the end of democracy in Nigeria,” Jega said.
